Eurocol - Volume 2 - The commemorative coins

Between 2004 and 2011, Member countries had the possibility of emitting a single commemorative coin a year. Since 2012, every country can emit two.

Year 2004 :    6 coins

Year 2005 :    8 coins

Year 2006 :  11 coins

Year 2007 :  11 coins + 17 coins - Treaty of Rome

Year 2008 :  14 coins

Year 2009 :  13 coins + 20 coins - European monetary union

Year 2010 :  16 coins

Year 2011 :   20 coins

Year 2012 :  16 coins + 21 coins - 10 years of Euro

Year 2013 :  25 coins + 6 coins - Treaty of Élysée

Year 2014 :  31 coins

Year 2015 :  36 coins + 23 coins - European Flag

Year 2016 :  36 coins

Year 2017 :  36 coins

Year 2018 :  44 coins

Year 2019 :  40 coins

Year 2020 :  42 coins

Year 2021 :  35 coins

Year 2022 : 34 coins + 23 coins - 35 years Erasmus programme

THE COMMEMORATIVE COINS

Between 2004 and 2019 the Member states of the Eurozone emitted 450 commemorative 2€ coins.

These coins are classified in two categories :

  1. Coins peculiar to every state 
  2. The particular series

The annual commemorative coins and their arrangement in the Volumes III

- The Volume IIIa includes coins from 2004 till 2013

- The Volume IIIb includes coins from 2014 till 2018

- The Volume IIIc includes coins from 2019 till 2023

The particular series counts two volumes :

  1. The Volume IV lists coins in common emission
  2. The Volume V shows the coins of the German series of Länders

The common emissions?

  • German Länders
  • The Spanish Heritage
  • The Dynasty grand - ducale of Luxemborg
  • The Lettish regions
  • 3 series of Malta - Constitution, solidarity and prehistory

Emission of commemorative coins

         The commemorative coins are a way for the broadcasting Countries to pay tribute to a personality, to celebrate a particular event, to present an important person or a known work or to participate in world events, etc. …

These emissions began in 2004 and the engraved coins are classified in the volumes IIIa, IIIb and IIIc of Eurocol. They are spotted by identification sheet and a ranking interns in Eurocol.

Among the commemorative coins, there are series of particular coins :

Certain coins celebrate an event common to all the Member countries of the Eurozone. They are classified in the volume IV - common Emissions - and detailed further.

Other coins of German origin form a particular series on German Länders and tidied up in the volume V detailed further.
